    - There are two types of work tool motion in metal cutting operation.

    1. Orthogonal cutting
    2. Oblique cutting

    - Orthogonal cutting is also called as two dimensional cutting and oblique cutting is also called as three dimensional cutting.

    - In orthogonal cutting, inclination of cutting edge of tool is perpendicular to the direction of tool travel.

    - In oblique cutting, inclination of cutting edge of tool is inclined at an angle with the normal to the direction to tool travel.

    - The tool life orthogonal cutting is less than that of in oblique cutting.
