    - Mechanical comparators are easy to handle, robust, compact and cheap when compared to other comparators.

    - Johansson Mikrocator is a mechanical comparator.

    - Button spinning on a string in toys and Johansson Mikrocrator work on same principle. It consists of twisted metal strip carrying a thin glass pointer. One end of twisted strip is connected to adjustable cantilever strip and other end is attached to bell crank lever. The bell crank lever is pivoted on frame of comparator and has one leg connected to the measuring plunger. The up down motion of plunger causes movement of bell crank lever which changes the length of twisted metal strip and this makes the pointer to rotate.

    The amplification of the instrument ( dθ / dl) α (l / w2 n),
    here,
    θ= strip twist
    l = length of twisted strip
    w = width of twisted strip
    n = number of turns.
