    - Shear stress: Two parallel, equal and opposite forces act tangentially to the surface of the body.

    - Shear stress is denoted by τ (tau)



    - As shown in the diagram, shearing force applied on a rectangle deforms it into a parallelogram. The bottom part of the rectangle is held in place and the upper undergoes transformation when shear force is applied.
