    There are some fluctuations in the velocity and pressure in turbulent flow due to random and irregular nature of fluid motion. The velocity and pressure at a given point are not constant in turbulent flow.

    Therefore, velocity in turbulent flow can be written in the parts these are time average portion (u) and fluctuating part (u') as follows,

    u = u + u'

    Where,

    u = instantaneous velocity

    u = Time average velocity or Temporal mean velocity

    u' = Velocity fluctuations

    Temporal mean velocity can be calculated by taking average of velocity at a point over a certain period of time.
