Is Sania Mirza’s appointment as the Telangana’s brand ambassador justified?

Controversies are an important part of life. Well, this time again the controversy is related to Sania Mirza who has always stayed in news for disrespecting the India’s National flag or for her irrelevant dress codes at various places. BJP Minister K Laxman raised his voice and opposed the decision of making her the brand ambassador of Telangana. After the protest, Sania Mirza is shouting loud that she was Indian and she will stay Indian. However, in such a scenario do you think - Is Sania Mirza’s appointment as the Telangana’s brand ambassador justified?

Yes

• Politicians and Media are just making haste out of waste. The matter of brand ambassador is a trivial matter and it doesn’t matters if she becomes one.

• Sania Mirza is married in Pakistan but she is a citizen of India and she has every right to represent a state of India.

• She is the one who brought dignity to the country by getting the highest individual ranking of 27. She won 15 titles in singles and 24 titles in doubles.

• All the different celebrities from different regions endorse the companies, then why a sport icon of India cannot represent a state of India.

• The remark of BJP minister K Laxman is not supported by the party itself. They called Sania as the daughter of India.

• Muslims are a minority group but very much part of a country. So just differentiating Sania on basis of caste grounds is not fair.

• Telangana clause says that any family living before 1956 is a part of state, and Sania’s family is living in the country since much before 1950.

No

• A brand ambassador was very busy defending her new role. She didn’t even spend a minute to tweet about the sad accident that happened in Telangana.

• Look at the pictures of London Olympics 2012 where she didn’t even carry the India’s National flag whereas other representatives were holding it with pride.

• Late back in 2006, instead of focusing on her game, she went to Hyderabad chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and demanded the land for opening a tennis academy. She was already allotted the land and the funds for the purpose.

• She refused to play with an Israeli player in 2006 as she was afraid of the protest of the Islamic community and later on went to team up with another Israeli player at her own wish.

• She never considered it important to present her country with a proper dress code. It was reflected again when she broke the necessary dress code in Beijing Olympics 2008.

• It is not just once when she was even accused of showing disrespect to India’s National Flag. It was again seen during the Hopman Cup 2008 in Australia.

• Now when she has married a Pakistani Cricketer, it won’t be right for the Indian states to go ahead and make her brand ambassador.

• Sania Mirza had no right to become the brand ambassador as she was never a part of the agitation to make a separate state of Telangana.

Conclusion

Sania Mirza becoming a brand ambassador of Telangana is not a big issue. Unnecessarily the political parties and media are making it (one). But when now it has become an issue, it is necessary to bring in note that before Sania calls herself an Indian she needs to look at her past actions. She might have won many medals but it was just not for country. It was also for her individual interest of attaining success. So, just being a sport icon doesn’t make her fit to become a brand ambassador of an Indian state.

  • i dont think Sania mirza being appointed as a brand amdassador is justified. its not the case with muslim or pakistani, but moreover its the case that she never had any interest in telangana dispute. When the two states have suffered a lot, she was not there when the state needed it the most. just representing the state is not enough, what matters is the actual patriotism

  • No individual have right to comment on this contraversy b'coz it take lots of hard work to be in the position where she is today.........she was alwayz known as a best indian tennis player ever........so i dont know why people are considering her as a pakistani"juss bcoz she get married to a pakistan cricketer"........no guys.....its totally unacceptable....nd those who still are against had ever thought dat when MODI became the P.M of india then why didn't shahrukh khan left india?????......nobody questioned or raise there voice for dat thing......we as a youngsters shud know dat woman is the best creation of god nd only a lady can take right steps for every individual......if she is accepting herself dat she is an indian then no one shud have any problem......therefore i would lyk to end my statement by saying dat Sania Mirza can be considered as an perfect brand ambassador of telangana............

  • i think she is still representing india in tennis then why their is a issue about her patroism . i don't think their is any fault in making her telangana's brand ambassador as she equally deserve than any other individual . these media person and some of the politician have to do some thing to be in news .......or to get TRP thatwhy they add some masala to the stories and present before the people ...... in country like india it very easy get attention on these silly matter ......so i would conclude that she has done nothing wrong by marrying pakistani cricketer ........because where she is today is not at all easy with out determination and hard work...

  • It is justified that Sania Mirza is made the brand ambassador of Telangana.
She has been brought up in Hyderabad so it is not wrong for her to hold this dignified post.
She has a lot of attachment from the place and no one else can hold that position with that care, love, passion and responsibility.
She has made the country proud. It is not right to question on her patriotism for India because her family has been living in this country since before 1950.
Just because she has been married to a Pakistani, that does not mean she is not good for this post. She should be given a chance for proving herself. We should not judge anyone before giving him/her a chance to prove him/her.

  • The people who floundered for getting the Telangana will be looking for the ambassador who is likely to listen to them but sania mirza appears to be not interested in all those stuff,so before making sania mirza as the brand ambassador some kind of survey should be done for deciding the final thing.
Sania Mirza appeared in lot of controversies in the past few years so just looking at her as famous sports celebrity would not be enough for declaring her as brand ambassador of Telangana. such a person is needed who is confined and has dedication towards nations prosperity.

  • Becoming the brand ambassador of the state has nothing to do with the sports championship or the various title won by Sania. The brand ambassador of a state of our country require a basic eligibility criteria of patriotism. Though Sania has represented our country at the various tennis tournament, but she has hardly shown any respect for our flag all through.

Sania has been clearly a player concentrating on her our achievements rather than the sense of country ownership. Such a person when made the brand ambassador of one of our states can do nothing else than concentrating on her own fame.

It is very clearly unjustified to appoint Sania Mirza as the brand ambassador of Telangana. Politicians are just playing one more rubbish game to portray the state with a famous personality, which is of no help to the state or its citizens.

  • I completely disagree with the BJP leaders point of the view about the whole State Brand Ambassador issue but I do agree to the point that there are several other candidates who are more deserving then Sania Mirza.
Though Sania has represented our country at the international level and msde us proud by winning lots of medals but this is not sufficient for a person to become an ambassador of a state which took years in the making.Where was Sania Mirza for all those years when all the struggle towards Telengana was going on , she never really worked for the new state and so I believe there are better suited candidates for this post then Sania Mirza.
She has also been in news regarding disrespecting the national flag on more then one occasion and Telengana already being a troubled state need a brand ambassador with a more sedate image.
