Moral policing on entertainment shows should be exercised

After initiating an inquiry to verify if AIB knockout promoted vulgar content, the government of Maharashtra said that it would not exercise ‘moral policing' on the show. Vinod Tawde, who is Maharashtra minister for cultural affairs, said that promoting vulgarity is a crime, and the government will initiate proper action. However, the statement has resulted in a debate all over the nation. There are many people including celebrities, who are not happy with the show content. The controversy related to AIB knockout show raises a key question: Should moral policing on entertainment shows be exercised?

Yes

- If a husband kisses his wife in public, it is a case of moral policing, but if a complete group of celebrities hosts a vulgar and an abusive show, they are innocent. It is the height of hypocrisy.

- Entertainment shows reach the masses through television and internet and are accessed by people of all ages. Such kind of shows should be held liable as they leave a negative impact on teenagers.

- Entertainment shows mean something that really entertains people with art, dance, acting or comedy. Therefore, if any vulgar and abusive content forms a part of entertainment shows, it calls for moral policing.

- It is the right time to give a justified definition to moral policing. Sex education in school is not crime, but spreading vulgarity on popular channels definitely requires moral policing. After all, it promotes sex education in entirely negative way.

- There is a thin line between broad-minded culture and promiscuous culture. Whether it is on the road, at home or then at entertainment shows, moral policing should be used to encourage a better society.

- Apart from vulgarity, the show AIB knockout has made fun of dark people and obese people in the most degraded way. Such form of content cannot be allowed to float among the common masses.

No

- Moral policing can be better defined as fanaticism that restricts people from accepting the changing trends in society. Entertainment shows reflect the change, and therefore they should be kept away from moral policing.

- Entertainment shows should be liked by people, and if the common people are approving it, there is no need to exercise moral policing on it.

- The law cannot punish each and every person who decides to take a different moral stance. Whether it is on entertainment shows or roads, moral policing should not be exercised at any place.

- It is important to understand the objective of the entertainment show before targeting it for moral policing. The funds of AIB knockout show will be donated to charitable trusts.

- Entertainment shows are the reflection of society. They show what kind of culture is prevailing in the society. It is a form of open media that cannot be chained with such kind of practices.

Conclusion

If we talk about the concept of moral policing, it is wrongly used in India and some other parts of the world. It is important to stop unethical messages and practices to spread among the young generation. However, first it is essential to understand what is ethical and what is unethical. The wrong practices need to be banned everywhere, and punishments should be same for all persons immaterial of their status or profession. Moral policing should be exercised on entertainment shows, as it doesn’t affect few people, but millions of viewers.

  • moral policing should be exercised on the entertainment shows which are being telecast on TELEVISION but uploading a video on youtube containing abusive language or making fun of another person say a black guy or making fun of one another isn't subject to moral policing as there are many vulgar videos on youtube , why haven't they exercised moral policing on those. so watching a video on youtube is completely an individuals choice and people liking these type of videos states that societies trend is changing.

  • Actually the question is why we see entertainment shows is only for to have fun from our dally life. We can see entertainment show with our whole family from younger to elder. We Indian people are not much open mind that we can see that with our family. There is some kind of awkwardness in this. And due to this children may get wrong massage. So moral policing should be exercised everywhere including Entertainment shows and Movies.

  • Moral policing should be exercised everywhere including Entertainment shows, Movies etc. because we are having a special respect and dignity as an Indian in whole world only due to such ideals. The movies and Entertainment shows are being attracting our youth heavily, so they should be under the banner of moral policy.

  • Moral policing might not be a correct practice in all the spheres of life, but it becomes an essential practise to control and maintain the margin between outwardness and vulgarity. It is many a times felt by the masses that many programmes and movies featured lack the moral aspect and it becomes very awkward to watch the show with the family.

This awkwardness is felt by most families, which they might not come up very much openly to portray their false open-mindedness and high-society attitude, but the true Indian at heart with the culture imparted within right since the childhood fails to express the same. This feeling within the person makes us feel the urgency of making stringent regulation to keep a check on the same.

It is the need of hour to save the moral attributes amongst our youngsters and this calls for the moral policing on entertainment shows as and when required. Though not for every show, but such a practice could prove to be beneficial at some stances. It is not restricted to the entertainment shows only, but to the media altogether, especially when it comes to restrict the vulgar content getting featured publicaly.

  • I would have to disagree with topic since entertainment shows bring the trending practices to the fore. If there is any moral policing, the contents streaming on net should also be curtailed as the internet is more ubiquitous than the TV now.
