Modern or Traditional - Which educational specialization would you follow?

Introduction:

It is not been long when someone criticized the trend of selfies as narcissism. Now a Los Angeles-based University of South Carolina is offering a new course on the art of selfies for students to critically examine society's influence on self-identity in the 21st century. It is literally not taking long for new courses to find its way from "Critical Reasoning to Identity and Diversity." The new courses offered seems luring, interesting, and fun to learn, unlike the traditional ones which have the cliché of nerds and bookworms attached to it. However, they also come with an apprehension of scope and prospects in the long run. Following your heart might not always lead to achieving what every 9 out of 10 eventually wants from life - secure job and lavish pay. The traditional ones still promises job security and balanced pay. There are definite advantages of following the mainstream but diverting from it has the thrill of achieving something exclusive.

Modern:

1. Years back, technology was feared for being destructive and harmful for humans. The IT revolution happened amid criticism and apprehensions. And now India offers the new generation with huge prospects in these fields. Unless you have the courage to take risks of being different from what everyone else has been doing, you never stand a chance to achieve success defined by your preferences. Success, after all is not landing up with a job of big package, but being happy doing whatever you are doing and knowing that you are good at it.

2. Not everyone wants do be a doctor, engineer, CA or IAS officer. But there is also no denying that almost every student with subject combinations of PCM is bound to try cracking IIT-JEE at least once. The herd following system is created with the intention of landing up with a quality degree and of course well paying job. Modern courses might not have tales of great men associated with it but there are more chances of you being someone who will be known to all one day.

3. Individually every person has his own set of calibres which if moulded in the right way prove to be fruitful. If your insight is deep into aviation, there is no stopping you from pursuing a master of technology in aviation. Why should you follow the mainstream of software engineering or mechanical if you know you want to spend your life designing things that can fly and not just move on ground in speed and ease? Following your passion will take you to places where you will be pleased with yourself instead of being pleased with only a paycheck at the end of the month.

4. A good advantage with modern courses is lesser competition in these fields. You do not have to compete with half of the total students of your age in the county or even abroad to land yourself in an institution of high reputation. An expertise or specialization in liberal arts or in public policy will get you to the place you want to be without competing with thousands.

5. Mostly the modern courses are framed with the intent of meeting the demands that are to rise in coming years or already exist but lack expert personnel. They have better prospects for future and more chances that the demand and scope will rise in coming years.

Traditional:

1. Lesser risks and stable job is one of the advantages of following traditional specialization courses. You have people who you can look up to and know what to expect and what not. It is easy deciding upon a traditional course as you can plan according to your efficiency and skills. In a modern course, one hardly has examples to look up at what might lie ahead to the path they are about to start treading with no looking back.

2. Traditional courses have the upper hand when it comes to expert faculty and advisory panel for placements. These courses have been for years and hence universities are most likely to hire the best in the faculty. Being taught and trained by experts matter a lot in professional courses. Modern courses are hardly a couple of years old and to expect that they would have expert faculty for the subjects is not a dream to always be fulfilled, unless you plan on going abroad to study them.

3. Some universities have barred starting of new courses. Lack of equipments and professors is one of the reasons but the major one is difficulty in ensuring placements at the end of the session. Taking risks at choosing a career is far too big than deciding which phone one should buy. You cannot undo what's done and there will be no going back to a fresh start.

4. Whoever said that traditional courses are loosing importance because of competition and too many students pursuing them hasn't looked up at the demands of engineers and doctors in India. Our country still lacks specialists in every field of medicine in all major cities, not to mention villages do not even have enough general practitioners.

5. Traditional qualification is not just in demands in India but abroad too. Indian doctors and qualified engineers, businessmen and lawyers are all across the world, with name and fame and a life they are happy with.

Conclusion:

It is hard to say whether modern or traditional qualification is better because it entirely depends upon the aptitude and passion of individuals. While engineering might appeal to one, fashion is for the other, aviation for someone else and navy for some. What is important is that students must decide according to their own preferences and interests instead of looking at what others are doing. A journalist can be happy with her job even if it involves risking life for travelling to earthquake hit Nepal when others are fleeing from the place. It is does not matter what you do in life, what matter is whether you are happy doing it or not. Modern and traditional qualification - both have pros and cons but despite all the hindrances people still follow them and those who put in their zeal and passion into it make it big ahead for others to follow.

  • It depends o n the preference of the individual with respect to their principles in life and more importantly, the individual expectations and he demand of life and their dear ones make a deep impact towards this decision. Both modern and traditionaleducation have their own pros and cons.

Modern education is more innovative, giving way to new ideas to fluorish. this coulkd help in the realization of one's dreams and ambitions and help them attain their field of interest. themodern education gives more successful aspirants in percentage ofpass out per year in comprison to traditional ones. the interest remains the key factorin regulating this success ratio.

On the contrary, we need to accept the fact that not everyoneis capable of living their dreams and ambitions. there are people who work and study just to earn their living, and some others who want to give a quality life to their dear ones. correctly said, traditionaleducation is amode of balanced pay and a steady high-paying job, which meets their requirement.

Hence, rather than passing a sharp judgement favouring one form of education, the debate should be left open to individual aspirants to opt their own path towards glory.
