Is China better than India in software market?

China is not leaving any stone unturned to showcase its ability in software market. In the year 2010, China projected $10 billion software export when India was eyeing $60 billion business. Clearly China is far behind but catching up at a brisk pace.

For

Chinese universities are incorporating more courses on software related topics and trying hard to churn out more people in this area. English is no more an alien language for them now as they have started carrying out instructions in English language. They are creating IT environment by setting up local companies that are helping immensely and proving a training ground for them.

With top-down approach of Chinese government, the instructions are clear and policies are made quickly, they are equipping better infrastructure facilities to local entrepreneurs. Although Indian software companies enjoy innovative excellence but Chinese are better equipped in providing the software backup and maintenance facilities.

Chinese are high in the list of the average IQ in the world that is helping them to emulate success story of IT. Chinese software companies work are more on local projects so they are unshakable at the turbulence of world market. The Indian software market is relying more on western corporate customers and so we are more vulnerable. Chinese have already developed some of the well known products in world arena, i.e. Baidu (search engine) is at 6th position among top websites of the world, Chinese softwares such as QQ (instant messenger), and Xunlei (download manager) are well known today.

Acknowledging the fact that China is the software conglomerate of tomorrow, a lot of software training and development companies like Aptech and Infosys have started settling their offices in China now.

Against

India is considered a giant in the world of software market - thanks to India's early entry and ability to converse in English. We shoid have no doubt in saying that India enjoys a lead over China. We have cheapest manpower after countries like Argentina and Brazil, which attributes vastly to our success. We also have largest English speaking population that helps in dealing with foreign customers.

We have the biggest pool of young engineers and software professionals which is increasing by leaps and bound every year. China scores low on this ground because of their one child policy. They have a huge challenge ahead due to shrinking and aging population.
