Dealing with sexual violence against women - Your suggestions!

Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) -

Article 1: All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.

Article 2: Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, color, sex, etc.

India is signatory to this and has incorporated many of these rights in its constitution. The constitution provides safeguards to the citizens of India to protect their fundamental rights. We are a country which considers women as goddess. However, a stark contrast is seen in the current scenario where women are being subjected to variety of exploitations and violence. The predominant one among them is the sexual violence. The 2012 Delhi gang rape shocked the entire nation. The brutality and cruelty made us ashamed of ourselves. Thousands of women get raped and assaulted in a year in India. It has become a crucial issue in which no solution is being implemented to provide a real result and improvement in condition of women.

Suggestions –

1. Police patrolling in isolated and sensitive areas to make sure that no threat is there.

2. Making sure that all the complaints of any form of sexual violence against women are registered.

3. Also, these complaints must be resolved very quickly in a time bound manner. Justice must be easily available to women and girls.

4. Women need to stand up for themselves. Support and strength must be given to women and her family, friends, etc. to register complains without fear.

5. Awareness campaigns must be organized on various fronts like - campaigns for women to strengthen their resolve and remove fear, campaigns for men for gender sensitization, etc.

6. Ethics, value education, etc. must stress on respecting women. This will inculcate such good values and morals in children right from the school going age.

7. Self-defense classes by women. Variety of apps and measures to call for immediate help in case of a problem.

8. The policies and laws to punish offenders must be made stricter. Their implementation is the major lacking area. Their implementation must be very strict.

9. Empowerment of women socially as well as economically will help them gain confidence and they can fight this violence. A weak woman will keep on taking the abuse as she is dependent. An independent woman is more likely to rescue herself and fight back.

10. Safety measures provided for women employees must be increased.

11. Sexual violence amongst partners or even a married couple is another neglected area in country like India. No one reports and no one tries to bring the culprit to justice too. Officials too show an indifferent attitude towards such cases. We must focus on this area too. There are many incidences of such sexual violence going on in India. Due to traditions and culture of India such incidences go unnoticed. We must encourage the women to bring forward such incidences so as to provide them justice.

12. Political will is what is lacking when it comes to take stern actions.

13. Men must be taught regarding respecting women. Social pressure must increase on men who abuse women so as to make them mend their ways.

14. Apart from these measures we also need to engage mass media as their reach has increased a lot. They can take women programs to nook and corner of the country and help mold minds of women, men and kids.

15. Also a proper analysis of causes of such incidences should be done and those causes should be corrected from their roots.

16. Sometimes under the name of religion women are exploited. Corresponding changes in religious laws and practices are needed to ensure equality of treatment and respect and dignity of women.

In the Indian Constitution, Part 4A, article 51A - the Fundamental Duties, it is mentioned that ''It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women.'' We must abide by rules and strive to fulfill our duties. We must act together to curb this menace. It is not enough to just let women live their lives. We must ensure a safe environment for them to live. Considering women on par with men also includes respecting them, their dignity and protecting them.

  • Sexual violence against women is always a major problem in India.Actually in my opinion we always waste our time in only discussing this issue. It's time for us to awake against this brutal crime.
Change must start from women itself. We should understand that being raped is not our fault. In India parents told their daughters from childhood to not get raped, but they never told their sons to never rape any girl.Men and women are both same.women are not supposed to satisfy men's needs.Police, media and public should change their attitude towards rape victim.Media nowadays considers rapists as celebrities, they are keen to cover their photos, exclusive interview with the victim and her family.Every rapist must be punished severely.Fear of getting punished is the only way to control these crimes. In my opinion if a women is raped, then the person she accuses should be punished without any trials.

  • Crime against women had always been the topic in limelight in India, and it is quite shameful that still we are unable to curb the brutality against women. The increasing number of sexual assaults and rapes across different parts of the country is giving a clear warning for the country against vast devastation. The brutality of the offense and their increasing number is waking up our females to give a big blow to these human monsters. That day is not far when these animals are going to get similar brutal death sentence from the women population and the legal system would not be able to prevent or punish them for executing these wild animals publically in most cruel manner. These monsters are calling their death by inflicting mass rage and violence amongst entire female community.People talk a lot regarding women empowerment in the Government. Aren't they ashamed of their inability to protect the dignity of the females of their nation. And least they bother to impart morality to the male counterparts who lack the basic decency to respect women. All they want is money and power. All they expect is authority. And just for their greedy and selfish needs they portray the requirement for women empowerment. We have police patrolling vans, we have female auto and cab drivers, we have law to show that we do punish, but nothing of any use. When immoral animals get into every profession, there is no use appointing anyone. We get incidents where the police themselves get involved in such offense. What can the female can drivers do when the monster appear as passengers. Or even if they avoid male passenger, we get incidents where these cruelty occur on mid daylight kidnapping and much more. This brutality has not spared female gender of any age group. It is right from new born to old age that the females are hunted for. And to hush up their sick psychic persona, we just stick another taboo on females on their dresses. To all those who pass sick comments oon female dressing sense for the rape they encountered, can they all reply what hell the sick-headed expect from the new born child? It is no more than an animal instinct who should be tied and treated for sick mentality. It is nothing else we can do externally to safeguard women. We have everything to portray to the world that we are providing security measures to our females. And yet the incidences are increasing day-by-day. Why don't we always force and revolve things only around women? Just because their physical make-up is weaker than males? Why not try to teach morality to males? Why not give them mandatory coaching classes on respect and dignity for females? Why not send the sick-headed to mental asylums? And most importantly, why is there no death sentence for the monsters who have murdered a female mentally, emotionally, socially, sexually, morally and in every form just leaving her physical body to suffer immense trauma in this narrow-minded society? Why can't we tattoo every sexual assaulter on their face saying an accused? These ugly headed monsters should be publically hanged. Unless such stong decisions are legalised and unless the judgement is given within couple of days from the offense, these offenders would never realize or fear their act. We need to transform our mentality and legal system from the base. Everything else is mere show-off in regard to security for females.
