Ethics or Logic- Which one would you go with?

In simple terms ethics is the science that tells a man how he can act correctly with respect to morality, and logic can be termed as the science of only thinking correctly. Ethics and logic are closely related to each other. Both deal with doing things correctly.

I would go with ethics

- Ethical principles help in dealing with several sensitive issues, that require you to think logically, with respect to emotional values. For example, if we take the case of euthanasia, you have to make the right judgment taking care of the emotional values.

- Ethics provide different answers to a single question and you have to choose the right option that would both satisfy you and be in accordance with morality.

- It benefits the society providing well founded standards of right or wrong.

- Ethics deal with some standards that include the virtues of honesty, compassion, and loyalty.

- There are certain ethical standards that include several rights, such as the right to life, the right to freedom from injury, and the right to privacy.

- They impose several obligations to keep people from rape, stealing, murder, assault, slander, and fraud.

- An ethical appeal always appeals to the sense of right and wrong.

- In an entrance exam if you are to make a decision about a question, it makes more sense to go with ethics rather than the logic, at least for the sake of the exam. As a bureaucrat, you would be required to be sensitive to the people you are dealing with.

I would go with logic

- Logic tells us how you can think practically.

- It is the field of philosophy that deals with rational thinking that leads to argumentation.

- It includes the study of all the arguments which consist of valid argumentation and the errors in reasoning.

- A logical appeal always appeals to the brain and when your brain says that something is the right thing to do, it has an element of thought from all the angles, and is correct.

- In short, Logic and Ethics go hand in hand and when your logic has a sense of morality in it, it is considered as ethics.

  • Life is not a document or story to go on lines giving a single moral. We are living in an environment which is influenced by various facts. Ethics and logic are same side of the coin which is both required for a happy and healthy life. Ethics are the basic principles which lays the foundation for the structure to be built; whereas the logic is the practical and feasible option for constructing the designed structure.

Ethics is the basic moral background which makes a person lay specific guidelines on which the life is to be spent. It is the part that the child inculcates and imbibes from his home and school which forms the foundation stone for the child. life without ethics would not stay longer. Ethics plays an important role in the survival of the person.

On the other hand, logic forms the intellectual part of the life. There has to be a sensible reasoning behind our moves and actions, and this sensibility is described by the logical thinking of the individual. Logical thinking makes the person survive the race for life. The survival of the fittest phenomena holds good with the logical thinking into life.

It is very difficult to opt between ethics and logic. In fact, for a success story, we need to have a nice blending of ethics and logic, giving the individual the soul of life in its entirety.
