Has there been a time when you went beyond your job role? How did you take up the challenge?

Answer: This question aims to see, if you are happy to extend yourself beyond your regular job or do you like to perform only a given set of activities. This is also a test of your flexibility.

  • If yes, say so and if not, say no. As simple as it might sound, you might take the other route just to impress the interviewer with your multitalented hands at work which have actually never diverted from the mainstream. Trust me on this, you will be caught off guards! While the intent of the question is purely to check whether you would come out of your comfort zone and take up other challenges when extremely required, most interviewers are excellent observant and they just know when you start bluffing.
In case you haven't done anything outside your role, say so along with a mention that since it is all because you never got a chance to try your hands outside the role and if required you would not hesitate to take up a challenging situation as that.
If you have proved your skills outside your role, mention the instance along with a description of what motivated you to keep going with the challenges at hand and how you believe that nothing is impossible if you believe in your capabilities.

Whatever instance you choose to elaborate, make sure that it ends with the task at hand
being completed well. You might mention that you would not hesitate in taking up the challenge again if required.
