Higher Voter Turnout: Awareness or Fashion

Higher Voter Turnout: Awareness or Fashion

India has competed six of the nine-phased staggered general elections till April 28. General elections 2014 are witnessing a impressive voter turnout. On an average, 64% of people have voted in the 14 states which is a much better figure than 2009. Higher Voter Turnout has the potential to turnout the election results. The higher voter turn out is really a start of change or is just another form of mass imitation on social media? Let us see!

Fashion

• It is just the interest of showing off in social media that is encouraging youngsters to vote.

• This time there are many youngsters who have voted at the age of eighteen just out of the fun of voting.

• A majority of youngsters don’t even know the serious issues that the country is really facing. Ask them what is inflation and they can hardly answer the question.

• Most of the people argue that there is Modi wave on the social media platform. It is not a Modi wave among the youngsters but just a mass imitation of whatever it is going on social media.

• There are many youngsters who are taking the process as fun and voting blindly to see the outcome.

Awareness

• The present generation is turning to action. It desires to take control of their lives in own hands.

• Social media has provided the youngsters with the right attitude to participate in the electoral process.

• Youngsters know about the problems of the countries through the social media. They want to initiate the change, and it was especially seen in Nirbhaya case.

• The young generation might not understand what wrong the last government did to the country but at least they can understand which sector of country is in better state.

• Youngsters understand one work and that is job. Job is not a part of fashion. Their urge to bring new jobs to the countries is forcing them to make use of their voting rights.

Conclusion

Call it a fashion or call it awareness, the fact is that youngsters are actively taking part in the democratic process. There might be many people who are just following the trend but at least they have started recognizing their responsibility. It might be a fashion statement this year but next time this voter will come out as more mature person and will vote more wisely by learning from its first experience.

  • Higher voter turnout is definitely the awareness and not the fashion. The possibility for this is the emergence of new party with a new manifesto, which is very different from what we have visualised so far. Another reason being the hyped campaigning by BJP, for their candidate, Modi.

Voting for fashion could only be from the ignorant masses. Youth today are more aware than the adults of our country and their warm blood thinks and approaches in a much faster note than any other sect of the society. The youth being the focus for the vote bank, both the major parties viz BJP and Congress have tried their best to attract the same in their campaigning.

Youth of present era are much more aware of the dirty political games and scenarios and have a clear idea and explanation for their vote support. We should also not fail to denote the emergence of AAP as a special party in these general elections. Though they have their own loopholes and possess the pros and cons as any other party, still their manifesto and their manner of approach in politics definitely have pulled out many voters from their homes.

The higher voter turnout is an appreciable factor, still it is not something to be proud of. We still have the percentage voters around 60-70% which is a shameful thing in a democratic country like ours. We still mean the remaining population is not concerned for the progress and presentations of our country. Our awareness has been spreading in a better way, which needs to proceed a long way ahead.
