Should Hindi be made as compulsory swearing-in language?

Should Hindi be made as compulsory swearing-in language?

In the most awaited swearing-in ceremony, 35 of the 45 ministers in of Narendra Modi’s council took oath in Hindi. Even Mr. Narendra Modi took the oath in Hindi. The question here is about the other ten ministers who took their oaths in English. Seeing their choice of language, is it apt for India to make Hindi as a compulsory oath language?

Yes

• The first reason is simple. Hindi is our national tongue and it is best to take the oath in national language.

• If the ministers cannot take the oath in Hindi, how will they connect with the most suffering part of the country?

• Narendra Modi left out all other languages like Gujarati and English to take the oath in Hindi. The message is clear.

• It was a much awaited event where by using Hindi ministers could have represented their country well.

• Globalization is ok but that does not means it will change the entire structure and base of the country.

No

• Oath ceremony is watched at the national level and English is the most widespread language in world.

• Oath ceremony was attended by various other respectable guests from the other countries who don’t understand Hindi.

• There are many parts in India itself where people don’t understand Hindi but are well acquainted with English language.

• India is a democratic country and even ministers have the right to choose their own language during the oath ceremony.

• In the scenario where there are more than 21 languages existing in India, English can act as a uniting language all over the nation.

Conclusion

Swearing-in ceremony is the starting point of a responsibility towards nation and its people. If Hindi is the national language of India, give respect to it and take the oath in Hindi. Regarding the people who don’t understand Hindi, it can always be translated by specialists in any language.

  • Hindi being the national language of India, it would be fair to have the swearing-in ceremony in Hindi. We, the citizens of India have the duty to give respect to our national language. Swearing-in ceremony is a very big event with respect to the country and its citizens. Giving respect and importance to our national language would be the most appropriate part of this event.

What other language than the national language can be used as a bridge in order to convey the swearing-in to all the citizens? Using English instead of the national language would not be appropriate, and would go a step against patriotism. Using any other language will again call up a agitation across the country, as many other citizens might not understand the language.

In a country like India with varied caste, creed, religion and linguists; it is very difficult to make everyone fully satisfied using a single language. A person can take the oath in any one language. Using the national language is more apt and justifiable. Every citizen of the country should know the national language, and this could simply justify the ground of making Hindi compulsory for the swearing-in ceremony.
