Should Nuclear Technology be used to meet world’s energy demands?

The world is expected to face the energy crisis in the coming years. The resources are depleting and at one point it will become tough for the world to fulfill its energy demands. In such a scenario Nuclear Power is considered to be the one source that can fulfill the growing energy demands. Is it wise to use the nuclear technology as an alternative to satiate the world’s energy demands?

Yes

• Other sources of energy have their own drawbacks. Even the coal-fired power plants pollute the environment and are responsible to cause acid rain.

• The fossil fuels are limited and the most of the advanced technology needs the energy to work and run.

• Nuclear plants will initially require a huge amount to stand but then they have the capacity to deliver the massive output for many years.

• The world has reliable nuclear technology that has been developed by spending huge amount of money. The safe and efficient ways can be used to generate nuclear power.

No

• Nuclear power production is expected to lead a significant amount of fatal radioactive waste that can be detrimental to environment and human race.

• Nuclear power and reactors needs uranium that is again a limited resource. So it makes no sense in using the nuclear power.

• Nuclear Plants again have drawbacks. They are more prone to the meltdowns and therefore will always stay at risk.

• Nuclear energy is the worst form of energy till this date that has the most fatal results on the mankind.

Conclusion

It is natural to have two strong opponents in such a sensitive and important issue. If you look it as a source of energy there is a bright future ahead us but then it has higher risks that overshadow its benefits. Perhaps it is not the right time to believe and say that nuclear power is an economical, safe and clean form of energy.

  • It is not a bad idea to use Nuclear Technology to meet the energy demands. But the risk factor always prevails with the nuclear reactors. It would be wiser to use the natural resources for meeting the growing energy demand.

We can have hydroelectric and solar energy to supply the various areas with the required power supply. Though solar energy is not a permanent solution to the continuous power supply in today’s era, still it can be used as a back-up on the places with ample sunlight. Also hydroelectric power is a good replacement for the nuclear energy at many a places.

Nuclear technology is definitely an unending supply of energy. The main concern comes with the disposal of the radio-active wastes which causes much harm, not only to the present, but also for the generations to come. Also, the nuclear reactors are always on the high alert for the explosion, devastating millions of miles in the surrounding area. If the nuclear technology so implanted fails, the loss would be much more than the gain from that reactor.

Still, we need to use the nuclear technology at many sites devoid of the hydroelectric power supply. This technology is unbeatable and will remain so for the years to come.
