- Sometimes commonly taken as the person who is fluent in many languages, a linguist is a person who has studied the Science of Language. It mainly includes the scientific analysis of
languages including the psychology of the speakers of the language, also known as sociolinguistics. A linguist is a repertoire of knowledge concerning types of vocal sounds, the varieties of sentence structure, syntax of the sentences, rhetorical phrases, grammar, agglutinative and synthetic languages. They study language, its structure and relation between different languages, similarities and dissimilarities between various languages. They also preserve dying and going to extinct soon languages by working with the speakers of the language and recording them, such as Gothic Language. They also give consultancy services in education services and education programs, especially in setting up of bilingual institutions. However never do carry a perception that a linguist knows all the languages of the world. That is a human impossibility.

- They also assist in medical services in bilingual environment by acting as an aid to the medical professionals in understanding the language of people they come in contact with so as to facilitate better treatment. This is all together a new discipline of linguistics, also known as medical linguistics.
