Explanation
The Central Board of Film Certification was set up in 1950 at Mumbai. It is a regulatory body and functions under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. No film can be screened in India without its certification. The rules of CBFC is based on the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules Act of 1983. The chairman and members of CBFC are appointed for a term of three years. These people may belong to different streams such as law, art film, social science etc. The CBFC is supported by the Advisory Panel which is located at various regional offices. The CBFC is divided into the Examining and Revising committee. The rules of CBFC are also applicable to the foreign movies that are imported to India.
