Corruption is the price we pay for democracy

Corruption is any unfair means to get your work done. Corruption exists in almost in every sector. In small terms corruption exists in colleges where students pay to get marks. In big terms it exists in politics!

As we know, democracy means of the people, for the people and by the people. It is to help people leave the way they want. This liberty however can be misused. Hence a question here is “Is democracy resulting in corruption”?

For
  • Democracy makes everyone a free bird. Some people especially the politicians make use of this in the wrong way.
  • Though it is unfair to say that because of Democracy, corruption is existent, however, the fact remains that democracy provides equality to everyone that results in people to have their own aims.
  • These aims may not always necessarily be for the country.
  • Democracy allows people to choose their leader. The leaders can thus easily buy votes!
Against
  • Corruption is not a direct result of democracy. It can exist anyway. At the end of the day, it is an individual’s decision to spread corruption or not.
  • When people are given a choice to their leader, they must think twice before doing so. If they accept bribe it is not democracy that can be lamed.
To summarizes, corruption in whole should be stopped. Whether it is a direct outcome of anything or not, it does not matter.

CORRUPTION IS THE PRICE WE PAY FOR DEMOCRACY
Firstly, what exactly means corruption? Corruption is a spiritual or moral impurity or deviation from the ideal. It includes many activities like bribery and embezzlement. Government or political corruption occurs when the employee acts in official capacity his/her own personal gain. Corruption is like cholesterol in the blood vessels (country). It gradually decreases the vessels and leads to heart attack.

In every corner of the country we see corruption. Be it schools, colleges, Government offices, Hospitals and where not. The beginning of corruption starts from our house itself. From childhood itself children are given bribes. For ex, If the parent wants his son to study then he promises of getting a bike for him if he scores 90% in the exam. Is this not a kind of bribe? The next time the son will demand something and will threaten if you did not fulfill I will not study. This is indirectly bribing.

We all live in democratic country. Democracy is FOR the people, BY the people and OF the people. We have the right to know where the money that we pay as tax go. The politicians spend crores of money on election. They purchase voters for them to win. Has anyone ever thought “Where did they get money from”, I think no one has. Rich are becoming richer and poor are becoming poorer because of corruption.

Just as coin has two sides, corruption also has two causes. We have to look and think both ways. We cannot clap with one hand, it’s just like that. We are not to blame politicians alone. We are to be blamed too. But people forget this unfortunately. This is the reason why so many people stay on footpaths, are unemployed, don’t have enough food and no clothes to wear. Is this INDIA 2020.

In my view, corruption in not the price we pay for democracy. Actually it is the people who encourage corruption. In government sectors, workers are not taking their work seriously and we people pay bribe to get our jobs done well before time. They normally accept in greed of money. So this all depends on us, who are accepting and giving bribes.

Secondly it is the responsibility of each and every citizen (of a democratic country like INDIA) to choose politicians who have good moral character. We have to cast our votes to right people for right job. Transparency should be there at each stage so that people can identify between bad and good. Now a day’s no one can have social responsibility

Even some republic and communist country have corruption. So we can not say corruption the result of democracy. Had we been democratic in the true sense, we would not have been living with evil as the case is. Corruption is live because we gave birth to it, nurtured it and are now encouraging it to spread its roots everywhere.

Group Discussion- Corruption is the price we pay for democracy
The opposition tries to destabilize the govenremnt and vice versa. It s the race for power between the political parties and to engage in such activity these poltical parties require funds, so these parties engage in top flight corruption. Corruption ensures a stable governance. Money plays a very big role in elections, rallying and campaigning. So corruption does becomes institutionalized. So yes, corruption is the price we pay for democracy.
