He was accorded many awards including Jamnalal Bajaj Award in 1999, UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize and Moortidevi Award in 2004. He also got Sahitya Akademi Award in 1993 for his book on biography of his father Mahadev Desai and Ranjitram Suwarna Chandrak - the highest award for Gujarati literature in 2001.
