- CMMI is a process area which describes the product development aspects which are to be followed by organizational processes. The process areas are organized in alphabetical order as per their acronym. The processes areas could be grouped according to the levels of maturity or categories of process area.

- Process areas in Capabilty Maturity model describe the features of a products development. These process areas help to identify the level of maturity an organization has attained. These mainly include:
