Can Commerce student apply for Science in graduation?

Asked by: Guest - 30 May 16
I didn’t get enough marks in 10th standard to take science and had to take up commerce. Now I have scored well in my higher secondary with commerce stream. Is it possible for me to find any course in science stream for graduation?

It is not possible to change the stream from Commerce to Science after 12th standard. To get into the graduation courses in the science stream, the students must have passed science subjects viz. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology (PCM or PCB) in their 12th standard which is the mandatory requirement.

If the student want to choose science stream, they should do that 11th standard itself. If the secondary level score is not well enough, they should have chosen some other less reputed school which could offer them science with that score. Changing into science is only possible if the student has passed higher secondary with science stream. Since no school would allow to change stream in 12th, the student would require to repeat 11th and 12th with science as subjects.

When the student has shown good scoring ability in commerce stream, they should identify their talent and potential in that field and pursue a suitable career in commerce instead of going back and wasting couple of years. The repetition would also increase the age of the student and may cause a concern while attempting for various entrance exam in science field in future, where age criteria becomes a essential eligibility criteria.
