I have finished my 10th CBSE Board Exams, and preparing for engineering entrance like DCE, AIEEE and IIT. However, my main focus is to get into IIT or BITS. How should I prepare for them?

It is always good to start coaching for the IIT and other entrance from 11th standard onwards. This gives sufficient time for the students to understand the basics of the topics and practice quality questions of different levels of difficulty. Planning the study is very much important. Student should be aware of the syllabus, the portion covered and the topics left to be completed. Regular practice and revision helps to understand the weaker strands and gives time to focus and rectify the faulty areas in time.

Many students feel the coaching for competitive exams to be different from CBSE. However, the basic requirement in both is the same which is understanding the concepts. Just the level of difficulty differs in various exams.

Mock tests play a very important role in self-assessment. Topic-wise mock tests should be undertaken on completion of each topic and the weak point to be clarified from time-to-time. Cumulative mock tests should be taken before appearing for the actual exam, as it helps to analyse the knowledge retained and grasp of the subject and also helps in time management.
