What are shares? What are nominal value/ free value of shares?

Share is a smaller unit into which the total capital of the company is subdivided. For example: if a company requires a capital of Rs. 500000, it can be sub divided into fifty thousand smaller units called as shares, each unit having the value of Rs. 10 each. The value of each share is known as Face value or Nominal value. In the example Rs. 10 is the face value of the share. Face value or the nominal value of the shares can be decided by the company.
