The Kargil war was fought from 3rd May to 26 July in 1999 against Pakistan intruders who in the winters of 1998 transgressed into this side of territory along the Line of Control and occupied fortified defences overlooking the National Highway 1-A in Drass, Kargil and Batalik of the Ladakh region.
