Q.  What is Autography?
- Published on 28 Mar 16

a. Mobile App
b. A book of autographs
c. Book written about own self
d. None of the above

ANSWER: Mobile App

  • The application, which is named ‘Autography’, is a first.
  • Monuments are ruined by the writings and graffiti on them.
  • To counter such things, the visitors can write their message digitally instead of on the monuments and historic places. Tablets will be installed near the historic monuments and artifacts in which the messages would be written.
  • The app would allow the visitor to choose the surface [marble or wood for example], the color and the instrument they want to use [felt pen, paintbrush, aerosol] to leave a virtual message or drawing.
  • The messages are stored online (http://autography.operaduomo.firenze.it/). They will be printed out each year and filed away in the Cathedral’s archives, alongside historic documents.
  • The idea was to raise awareness among visitors about vandalism, but also give them the chance to leave behind a record, an everlasting sign of their passing through, without damaging the monument.
