The probability of restoring the failed equipment to an operable condition within a specified period of time and stated conditions is regarded as 'Maintainability'.

Since the equipments are prone to failure during their operations, they prove to be more expensive in terms of money, time and the safety-oriented issues.

Therefore, maintenance is a crucial concept which must be taken into consideration especially for long-lasting performance of the equipments.

Preventive, predictive, breakdown and capital are the major types of maintenance. Among these, preventive maintenance avoids the possibility of any kind of failure.

Predictive maintenance is usually decided after the prediction of likely occurring failures.

Breakdown maintenance deals with an elimination of failures during the operational level whereas, capital maintenance specifies the performance index associated with equipment over which the maintenance operation is to be carried out.
