    - Continuous chips are produced in the machining process of ductile materials.

    - 95% of the power in metal removal process is used for deformation taking place in the shear zone and only 5% of it is used in stored elastic energy in the workpiece.

    - The conditions which are responsible for production of continuous chips in metal removal process are as follows:

    1. Ductile work material

    2. Large rake angle

    3. High cutting speed

    4. Small chip thickness

    5. Less friction due to use of lubrication
