    - In milling process, the thickness of layer material removed in one pass of workpiece under the cutter is called as depth of cut.

    - For roughing cuts, common depth of cut is around 3 mm to 8 mm.

    - For finishing cuts, common depth of cut is less than 1.5 mm.

    - Material removal rate can be calculated with the known value of depth of cut.

    - The volume of metal removed in unit time is known as material removal rate.

    - Material removal rate = (Length of cut) / (Feed rate)
