Two capacitances are present in hybrid – π model. They are diffusion & transition capacitances.

From the configuration of hybrid- π model, the capacitance which is provided by forward-biased base-to-emitter junction is known as 'Diffusion capacitance'.

The significant role of diffusion capacitance is to represent the excess minority carrier storage at the base emitter junction. It is usually expressed as Ce or C'be.

Conversely, the capacitance which is offered by the reverse-biased collector base junction is termed as 'Transition capacitance'. It is also regarded as collector junction barrier potential & hence normally expressed as Cc or C'cb .
