    - If a bolt has pitch error, then it will not easily screw into perfect ring gauge of same nominal size. The effective diameter needs to be changed if the bolt needs to be screwed into perfect ring gauge.

    - An error in pitch decreases effective diameter of nut and increases effective diameter of bolt.
