Erichsen cupping test is known as formability test. Any method does not give satisfactory results about formability because this term is affected by different parameters.

Erichsen cupping test is industrially accepted to determine formability. This test helps to find out ability of a sheet metal for deep drawing. In this test, blank is deep drawn with indenter and depth of cut is measured which helps in identifying its ability.

Formability is related with ductility of metals. Hence ductility of metals is to be measured. The ductility of metals is determined by tensile test by measuring percentage elongation in metals.
