    In the expression for turbulent shear stress,

    τ = η (du / dy)

    η (eta) is a turbulent coefficient of mixing is also called as eddy viscosity. It is not the property of fluid. It is the functional characteristic of flow.

    The ratio of eddy viscosity to (η) to mass density of the fluid (ρ) is called as kinematic eddy viscosity. It is denoted by (ε)

    ε = η / ρ

    The functions of characteristics of fluid flow ρ and ε, vary from point to point in the flow so that their value cannot be predicted. Thus eddy viscosity has limited use.
