Formula for blade loading coefficient of axial flow compressor

Q.  What is the formula for blade loading coefficient (Ψ) for an axial flow compressor?

Where,
W = Workdone
Cf = Axial flow velocity
Cb = Blade velocity

- Published on 16 Sep 15

a. Ψ = W / (Cf)2
b. Ψ = (Cf)2 / W
c. Ψ = W / (Cb)2
d. Ψ = (Cb)2 / W

ANSWER: Ψ = W / (Cb)2

    - The blade loading coefficient (Ψ) for an axial flow compressor can be defined as the ratio of workdone to the square of peripheral velocity of blade.

    Therefore,

    Ψ = Workdone / (Blade Velocity)2

    Ψ = W / (Cb)2

    - Blade loading coefficient is a dimensionless parameter. Usually the blade loading is assessed by the diffusion factor.
