    The head loss due to friction is given by the formula,

    hf = (f L V2) / (2 g D)

    Frictional resistance is offered to motion of fluid when it flows through pipe.

    This loss of head varies pipe to pipe and different fluid flow conditions. To measure correct head loss, frictional factor (f) must be calculated accurately. It is shown by dimensional analysis that the frictional factor (f) depends upon the Reynold's number.

    For laminar flow, the friction factor is given by,

    f = 64 / Re
