Gannet Co has reached an agreement for the acquisition of newspaper company Journal Media Group for USD 280 million providing the media giant control of 100 local US markets. Journal media publications include Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Memphis (Tennessee) Commercial-Appeal and Knoxville (Tennessee) News Sentinel. Gannet will be able to maximise short term profits through this acquisition. Merger will add 15 day and 18 weekly papers to its portfolio.
