Government informed Parliament that energy sector in the nation was the second biggest emitter of GHG emissions. Energy sector contributed to 58% of the overall emissions in the nation while the share of industry was pegged at 22% followed by 17% from the agriculture sector. As per a report 'India: Greenhouse Gas Inventory-2007', the net GHG emissions from India in 2007 with Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) were 1727.71 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent.
