    - There are various cutting tools are used in shaping machine such as roughing, down cutting, finishing, parting off, side recessing and goose neck.

    - The above diagram shown is of goose neck. It is used to cut the work to produce flat surface.

    - These cutting tools are similar to the tools used in lathe work except for side and front clearance.

    - Shaper tools have less side and front clearance than that of the tools used in lathe operation, because in shaping operation, the work feeds into it on the return stroke, whereas the lathe tool is continuously feeding into the work.

    - Commonly, high speed steel tools are used for shaping operation.
