Government of Odisha launched an assistance scheme called Baristha Bunakar Sahayata Yojana’ for elderly handloom weavers
  • This was on the occasion of National Handlooms Day observed on 7th August 2016
  • It was launched by State CM to improve condition of 8000 weavers
  • Odisha produces handloom fabrics worth INR 160 crore and there are nearly 1.5 lakh weavers including 78 percent women engaged in handloom products
