    Friction

    - Opposing force acting in the direction opposite to the motion of block when it slides on a surface is called as force of friction.

    The different laws of friction are:

    1) Force of friction is directly proportional to normal reaction between surfaces in contact.

    2) Force of friction depends on the nature of material

    3) Force of friction is independent on :
    a) Area of contact
    b) Sliding velocity of one surface with respect to the other.

    - Different types of friction are as follows:

    1) Dry friction – Friction between dry or unlubricated surfaces

    2) Boundary friction – Friction between rubbing surfaces with thin layer of lubricant between them.

    3) Film friction – Friction between two rubbing surfaces with thick lubricant between them
