On the basis of the range of operating frequency, the oscillators are categorized into low frequency and high frequency oscillators. High frequency oscillators are also regarded as 'Radio frequency oscillators'.

If the frequency range of low frequency oscillator is from 20 Hz to 100 kHz, then they are called as 'RC oscillators'. If the operating frequency for high frequency oscillators lies in the range of 100 kHz to few GHz, then they are referred as 'LC oscillators'

Hartley, Colpitt's & Clapp are the oscillators exhibit the property of LC oscillators whereas Wein-bridge oscillator, phase shift oscillator & UJT relaxation oscillator exhibit the property of RC oscillators.
