    On the basis of range of operating frequency, oscillators are majorly classified as LC & RC oscillators. LC oscillators consist of inductors in addition to capacitors. Similarly, RC oscillators comprises the resistors along with the capacitors.

    However, this implies that capacitors form the basis of common component used in LC as well as RC oscillators. Therefore, components of LC oscillator helps in determination of frequency of oscillation

    Capacitors play a major role in maintaining & tuning of the specified operating range of low as well as high frequencies,whereas resistors in RC and inductors in LC oscillators are used as per the necessity of operational level at low and high frequencies respectively.
