ICM 7217A is a four decade, presettable counter which exhibits parallel zero detect. It also provides multiplexed 7-segment LED display outputs with common anode or common cathode configurations.

As far as the frequency of onboard multiplex oscillator is concerned, it is controlled by a single capacitor or by allowing an oscillator to free run.

This type of LED display has a provision of settable resistor whose contents get continuously compared to the counter.

Digit and segment drivers perform the function of directly driving the display upto 0.8 inch character height (common anode) at the duty cycle of about 25%
