ICM 7217 A mainly generates three outputs. They are CARRY/BORROW, ZERO & EQUAL outputs. CARRY / BORROW output allows the direct cascading connection of the counters.

As the name indicates, ZERO output indicates that the count value is equal to zero and EQUAL output represents that the count value is equal to the value present in register.

Since the data gets multiplexed due to three-state BCD I/O port, the CARRY/BORROW, EQUAL & ZERO outputs including the BCD port drives one standard TTL load.
