To have high creep resistance property metals should have high melting point. Steels with nickel and cobalt have high melting points. High creep resistance is observed in precipitation hardnable alloys.

Metals having high oxidation resistance possess more creep strength. Without having any plastic deformation the metals used should be able to withstand high temperatures. Oxidation resistance of stainless steels depends on chromium content. Oxidation resistance of stainless steel can be improved by by using higher level of nickel. Silicon addition also increases oxidation resistance but it decreases high temperature strength.

Different factors affecting creep resistance are metal coating, grain structure, etc.
