    - Message switching is a network switching technique in which data is routed in its entirely from the source to the destination.

    - The message-switched network stores and delays the whole message.

    - If the entire network's resources are engaged or the network becomes blocked, the message-switched network stores and delays the message until the resources become available for effective transmission of the message.

    - Two methods are used in Message switching :

        1. Store and Forward
        2. Switch to switch

    - Message switching stores each message at intermediate nodes in its entirety before forwarding, messages experience an end to end delay which is dependent on the message length, and the number of intermediate nodes.

    - Message switching is still used for telegraph traffic and a modified form of it, knows as packet switching, is used extensively for data communications.

    - A message switch can store data and bit rate, and convert the data from switch to switch when it is convenient to do.

    - Blocking cannot occur, however long delays can happen.
