The quality of a product gets affected due to occurrence of several defects in a product. These defects are majorly categorized as critical, major and minor defects.

If there are certain deviations in the values from the standard specified values, then these are the results of minor defects. These defects does not exhibit severe consequences as compared to those of major and critical defects.

Defects which minimizes the usability of the unit on board are termed as 'Major defects'. These defects results in the entire degradation of product.

Similarly, critical defects causes hazardous or unsafe consequences by affecting the performance level of tactical functions of end-items such as ships, aircrafts & tanks.
