    - Goodman diagram is modified to account yielding failure of the components. This diagram is used in the design of components which are subjected to fluctuating stress.

    - Horizontal line QR at point Ses on stress amplitude defines fatigue failure. The equation for fatigue failure line QR is as follows:

    Sas / Ses =1

    here, Sas = Limiting safe shear stress amplitude, Ses = Endurance limit of component in shear.
