N. S. Vishwanathan has been appointed as the new Deputy Governor of the RBI with his appointment on 28th June 2016 being approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet
  • Vishwanathan, whose term will be for three years, will succeed HR Khan who will retire this week
  • Vishwanathan has held the post of the ED in the RBI since April 2014 and currently supervises banking and non-banking regulation departments
  • Search Panel was headed by Cabinet Secretary PK Sinha and includes RBI governor Raghuram Rajan
