Q.  A bevel gear has pitch circle diameters of pinion and gear as 20 mm and 40 mm respectively. What is the face width of bevel gear?

    Given: Pitch circle diameter of pinion = 20 mm & Pitch circle diameter of gear = 40 mm

    Formula: Face width = A0 /3 or 10 m
    The smaller value calculated using the formula A0 /3 or 10 m is considered as face width of bevel gear.

    Substituting the given values we get,

    Pitch cone distance (A0) = √(20/2)2 +(40/2)2
    = 22.36 m
    A0 / 3 = 7.45 m or 10 m

    Face width is 7.45 as it is the smaller value.
