    Given: Internal diameter = 300 mm, external diameter = 500 mm, thrust pressure = 6 x 106 N / m2 , number of collars = 5

    Solution:

    Formula: W = n π p (R12 - R22)

    Convert diameter of shat into mm and radius

    Substituting the given values we get,

    W = 5 x π x 6 x 106 (0.152 – 0.252)
    W = 3769911 N
    W = 3769.91 kN
