    - Thrust or force along connecting rod is given as FQ = FP / cos Φ

    - FP is the piston effort i.e is the net force acting on the piston along the line of stroke.

    Solution:

    Given: Piston effort = 200 kN, crank angle θ= 45° , obliquity ratio = 3.5

    1) To find the value of Φ

    sin Φ = sin θ / n

    Therefore, Φ = sin-1 (sin 45 / 3.5) = 11.65°

    Substituting the given values we get,

    FQ = FP / cos Φ

    FQ = 200 x 103 / cos 11.65

    = 204.20 kN

    Therefore, force acting on connecting is 204.20 kN
